Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Rail Transit Joint Innovation Union PolyU and Shenzhen University spearhead the establishment of the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Rail Transit Joint Innovation Union” (the Union) with 10 other universities and enterprises. By combining the research strengths of the collaborating parties, the Union aims to build an integrated rail transit system within “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay” through research and technological breakthroughs to cater to the tremendous needs of safe operations and maintenance of the rail transit in GBA. PolyU joins the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Supercomputer Alliance

Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Supercomputer Alliance embraces the user organizations to foster the innovative application and development of supercomputer, and deepen the exchange and collaboration within the alliance. The Tianhe-2 supercomputer operated in National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou would be the major cooperation foundation to the advancement of the supercomputer application among the alliance members. The alliance members include Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Jinan University, Guangdong University of Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and University of Macau. Dr. Terence Lau, Director of Innovation and Technology Development of PolyU participated in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Supercomputer Alliance inauguration ceremony held during the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance Presidents' Forum 2018. Joint Center for Immunotherapy

PolyU joins forces with Axis Therapeutics, a newly established joint venture by two global biopharmaceutical companies – Athenex, Inc. and Xiangxue Pharmaceutical, to foster the research and development of translational medicine by setting up a Joint Center for Immunotherapy. The Center is set to conduct collaborative research on cancer immunotherapy, with an aim to develop new cancer treatments. PolyU will provide full support for the research on novel technologies and genetics models to develop cancer immunotherapy technologies, and is committed in transferring pioneering research to real-life applications for the benefits of mankind.

PolyU - Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft - KIT Life Sciences and Engineering R&D Platform

PolyU joins forces with the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (Fraunhofer) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), two leading research organisations in Germany, to drive collaborative applied research and technology development in the area of life sciences and engineering for the benefits of the global community. This collaboration will bring in significant innovations in chronic diseases, immunomodulation, traditional Chinese medicines, and translational medicine, and thus to bring about more translational deliverables to the society.

DISH Global Centre for Food Safety and Quality (DISH)

DISH Global Centre for Food Safety and Quality is a non-profit collaborative alliance set out to address challenges in global food safety. Jointly founded by National Food Institute - Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Alma Mater Studiorum –University of Bologna (Unibo), Lund University (LU), and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), DISH Global Centre for Food Safety and Quality is a non-profit collaborative alliance set out to address challenges in global food safety, with the motto of “Powering Food Safety with Science and Technology.” It is a unique Europe-Hong Kong establishment by four economies – Denmark, Italy, Sweden, and Hong Kong, with the vision to become a global leading collaborative centre for food safety. Through this key representation of academic collaborative efforts in engaging the industry, government, NGOs and other stakeholders, DISH is designated to translate into a true global effort to advance food safety, building on each partner’s networks, experiences and skills, and to reach its final goal of creating impact on society in the long run.

CASIL – PolyU Advance Aerospace Engineering Collaborative Platform

PolyU and China Aerospace International Holdings Ltd. (CASIL), a public-listed subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), reached a strategic collaborative research framework agreement to advance aerospace engineering. By forging closer ties between PolyU's research and China aerospace engineering, focusing on robotics, intelligent systems and sustainable energy, the collaboration is expected to result in high-impact and high-value aerospace engineering applications, as well as marketable aerospace products. A joint laboratory on intelligent systems will be established to pioneer research in robotic design and control, energy-saving and cost-efficient vibration control, intelligent systems or structures for control, measurement, sensing and health monitoring etc. in the aerospace field. The collaborative research framework agreement also encompasses professional exchange, visiting program, taught courses, distinguished lectures, funding support and all kinds of collaborative research both in Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong. Huawei – PolyU Communication & Advanced Computing

PolyU's collaboration with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. (Huawei) has commenced since 2007. The research areas include but not limited to communication, big data, crowdsourcing platforms, mobile networks, wearable devices, algorithms as well as materials. Numerous collaborative projects involved joint efforts from Huawei and different PolyU academic and research experts, including Department of Electronic and Information Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Computing, Interdisciplinary Division of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Applied Mathematics and Department of Applied Physics. Collaborative research seminar & workshop series is organized annually at PolyU to explore the respective strategic collaborations between PolyU and Huawei. Huawei Innovation Research Program (HIRP) HIRP2 Huawei Innovation Research Program (HIRP) is an innovation initiative, a sponsorship program targeted at funding leading universities and research institutes conducting innovative research in ICT areas. It seeks to identify and support world-class, full-time faculty members, sets up win-win collaboration and pursues technology innovation of mutual interest. It has been launched for over 12 years and more than 700 innovative research projects from hundreds of world-class research organizations were awarded. Both will work on researches relating to high-capacity optical communication systems including long-haul and short-reach data center transmission systems, computer networks and systems, and big data computing. It aims to pioneer the research in the field of optical communication systems and advanced computing systems by leveraging synergy of the industry and the university. It targets at bolstering significantly the capacity of internet systems through technological breakthroughs, as well as developing system infrastructure and algorithmic solutions for computing-driven innovation.
